rosy morning waters
beneath a mangled moon
the bay that floats the bridge
I cross feels like a room
so blue where my emptiness ascends
and the long chain of hours will not bend
drive on down the highway
whiskey in my joe
moving in my misery
gets me through this blow
the world took you once when you died
I never known a woman so alive
books up on your piney shelf
cold pan on the stove
branches at the window pane
show a fractured cove
you loved a sunrise on the sea
lord, these red sky memories
bridge
the morning’s got this thing
it always wants to sing
songs of you
music on the radio
plays into the night
I hold the hole inside your ring
that catches firelight
the world took you once when you died
I never known a woman so alive
